A Little History
In 1984, Duane Slaymaker was looking for a career change. He decided to focus on his lifelong passion for woodworking. He signed on as an apprentice under Lancaster furniture maker Kai Pedersen. Throughout the next four years, Duane developed his own natural abilities and learned many of the necessary skills he would need to accomplish future challenges.
In 1988 Duane left “Pedersen Woodworking” and opened “The Wood Shed”. Since then, The Wood Shed has provided customers with custom cabinetry and furniture projects. Although Duane has purposefully remained a solo operation, the business has grown extensively, accepting progressively complex and challenging projects.
In 2000, Duane’s love for the craft and fascination with all things wood, lead him to the purchase of a small sawmill. The mill enables Duane to harvest and/or salvage local trees. The logs are then milled into useable lumber. This material is then dried and used to create his one-of-a-kind projects.
In 2003, Duane designed and patented a line of wooden guitar stands. He builds them entirely onsite and markets them though a dedicated website at Slayframe.com.
